Innovative retail solutions for modern customer experiences

We create software, processes, and workflows for emotionalization, consulting, and optimal handling of shopping experiences in retail. The focus is on the perfect consumer experience and the best possible integration into the store concept, as well as supporting customer advisors with sales apps.

In this way, we achieve a contemporary shopping experience for our customers and optimally tailored store processes for our partners to improve footfall, receipt sales, and merchandise management.

Wedeko GmbH has been part of Bütema AG since 2025, which has enabled us to further strengthen our market position and expand our presence in other industries.

Our team currently consists of 95 employees. We have been based in Bietigheim-Bissingen since 2010 .

In 2024, our turnover reached €21.3 million.

Our history

December 2025

After 37 years at Bütema AG, Dirk Frintrop is stepping down as CEO and taking over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Lutz Hollmann-Raabe will take over as CEO and will work with Patrick Schiller and the entire team to shape the company's next steps in its development.

2025

Bütema AG acquires Wedeko GmbH near Ulm, further strengthening our market position and expanding our presence in additional industries.

The number of employees has risen to over 85 colleagues.

2024

Bütema AG celebrates its 20th anniversary. The number of employees has risen to over 70 colleagues.

2022

Over the past few months, more than twenty new colleagues have been hired, and Bütema AG will grow to 66 team members in 2022. On September 1, Patrick Schiller will join the management team as the third member of the Executive Board (CTO).

2021

In April 2021, Lutz Hollmann-Raabe will be appointed to the Executive Board and, as COO and CSO, will take over the areas of sales, marketing, and professional service hardware. Dirk Frintrop will remain CEO and responsible for development.

2021 brings numerous innovations: payment solutions (self-checkout, mobile checkout), digital signage, IoT buttons, output processing, and the Digital Signage Backend Update 5.2.0 with self-service configurator. The InStore Assistant app gets the Communication Center. In addition, a digital admission control system is implemented in record time to support retailers during the coronavirus crisis.

2019

Marketing activities are complemented by in-store consulting.

The team advises retail customers on digital touchpoint strategies and content creation, as well as the effective use of Bütema digital signage software.

2016

The focus is now on developing the RetailCore platform.

New products are added almost every year: LED and LCD screens and matching mounts, touch screens, IoT buttons, sensors, RFID technology, AI-supported features, and much more.

2015

The company adopts the slogan "Consumer centric Retailing."

At the same time, Bütema AG now focuses its strategy exclusively on fashion and lifestyle retail.

Development of the soviaRetail product begins.

2014

Bütema AG focuses on processes and solutions for the fashion and lifestyle retail sector.

The range of software and hardware services is continuously being expanded.

2004

In 2004, the management buyout of Bütema AG takes place. The software, barcode printer and reader, and MDE device divisions are transferred to the new stock corporation. The focus is on wholesale and retail customers.

Later on, the sovia Solutions division is expanded. This results in a clear focus on retail and mobile merchandise management. The previous main division for trading in barcode products is consolidated under the BarcodeChannel brand name and continued.

When developing new products and services and supporting existing customers, we ensure that any impact on the environment and climate is kept to a minimum and that our products make a positive contribution to environmental and climate protection for our customers.

Bütema AG sees itself as an active member of society and is therefore involved in a variety of ways. Among other things, we make donations and engage in other forms of social commitment. We do not make financial contributions to political parties, party-affiliated or party-like organizations, or to elected officials or candidates for political office in Germany or abroad.
