As part of its ongoing digitalization efforts, Darmstadt Hospital has expanded its visitor information services. In collaboration with Wedeko, a brand of Bütema AG, a digital information system was installed in the lobby that displays up-to-date content and can be controlled centrally.
With the completion of the new Darmstadt Hospital building in late 2020, a modern infrastructure was created that placed high demands on wayfinding and information provision. Patients and visitors were to have quick and reliable access to up-to-date information as soon as they entered the building.
At the same time, the solution had to work in the heavily trafficked entrance area and remain clearly legible at all times, even under changing lighting conditions—especially in direct sunlight.
Wedeko developed a compact digital signage solution for the central entrance area. The goal was to create a visible yet durable information display that functions reliably regardless of external conditions.

Two digital kiosks, each equipped with a 49-inch high-brightness display, were installed at the hospital’s main entrance and exit. The high brightness ensures excellent readability even in direct sunlight.
The systems are designed for continuous use and feature a robust construction with safety glass and an IP56 protection rating.
The content is managed through the content management system. This allows the hospital to update information on a daily basis and make changes at short notice at any time.
The digital information system significantly improves communication in the entrance area. Visitors and patients receive up-to-date information as soon as they enter the building and can find their way around more quickly.
Thanks to centralized control, content remains up-to-date at all times and can be flexibly adapted. At the same time, the high visibility of the display stands ensures reliable information delivery under all lighting conditions.
The project demonstrates how digital signage can be strategically deployed in healthcare settings to enhance key information points and significantly improve communication with visitors.
The combination of rugged outdoor technology, high display brightness, and centralized content management exemplifies the approach taken by Wedeko, a brand of Bütema AG.
