A networked digital signage concept was implemented for Münsterschwarzach Abbey, integrating visitor information, tourism communications, and the promotion of services offered by the abbey’s own facilities. Several indoor and outdoor displays now ensure a consistent, up-to-date message at various touchpoints.
As a popular tourist destination, Münsterschwarzach Abbey combines religious life, tourism, and its own commercial operations, such as a bakery and a butcher shop. Consequently, the information needs are diverse: ranging from general visitor information and tourist content to daily updates on what’s available at the shops.
The challenge was to present this diverse content in a structured, up-to-date, and location-specific manner without having to rely on time-consuming manual postings.
Wedeko, a brand of Bütema AG, developed a comprehensive digital signage concept that integrates multiple applications. The goal was to deliver relevant content exactly where it is needed—outdoors for visitors and directly at the point of sale in the monastery’s own facilities.
The setup included a combination of an outdoor digital display case, a display at the tourist information office, and additional displays in the monastery bakery and butcher shop.
All systems can be controlled centrally and enable flexible, location-specific content delivery.

A digital display has been installed outdoors to provide visitors with up-to-date information before they even enter the premises. In addition, another display has been installed at the tourist information center to provide specific tourist information and wayfinding assistance.
Displays have been installed in the monastery’s own businesses—the monastery bakery and the monastery butcher shop—to showcase special offers, promotions, and additional information right at the point of sale.
The systems used are designed for continuous operation and can be updated centrally with content. This allows for the efficient management of both general information and location-specific content.

Today, the abbey benefits from clearly structured and always up-to-date communication across various touchpoints. Visitors receive relevant information exactly where they need it, while offers are presented flexibly and in an eye-catching manner at the points of sale.
Centralized management significantly reduces maintenance efforts and makes it possible to quickly adapt or add content. At the same time, it creates a consistent, modern look and feel throughout the entire grounds.
The project demonstrates how diverse information and communication needs can be effectively consolidated within a complex environment. The combination of visitor information, tourism-related communication, and digital presentation of offerings serves as a prime example of the practical application of digital signage in cultural and public facilities.
