Brief description

Wedeko, a brand of Bütema AG, implemented an outdoor digital wayfinding system for the Josephinum Clinic in Munich. The goal was to improve visitor navigation, provide information in a flexible manner, and enhance the clinic’s image in a targeted way.

Initial situation & challenge

Until now, the hospital had relied on static information signs to help visitors find their way around the grounds. However, these signs offered only limited opportunities for updates and could no longer meet the requirements of a modern, flexible visitor information system.

Clear and intuitive wayfinding is particularly crucial in a medical setting. Visitors often find themselves in unfamiliar situations, under time pressure, or experiencing stress. Consequently, the demands placed on the clarity, visibility, and reliability of information systems are high—both day and night and under a wide range of weather conditions.

Wedeko's solution approach

Wedeko developed a comprehensive concept for a digital wayfinding system in the clinic’s outdoor area. The focus was on a robust, durable solution that blends seamlessly into the surroundings while offering maximum visibility.

The content is managed centrally via the digital signage system and can be updated in real time as needed. This creates a flexible information platform that displays both current announcements and permanent wayfinding information.

implementation

As part of the project, three 55-inch outdoor display columns were installed, which are specifically designed for outdoor use. The systems were manufactured in a custom RAL color to ensure they blend seamlessly with the clinic’s architecture and overall aesthetic.

In addition to hardware integration, Wedeko handled the entire project—from technical consulting and site planning to visualization, installation, and content design for the displays.

The light poles used are characterized by high luminosity and weather resistance, ensuring reliable performance under a wide range of conditions.

Results & Added Value

The digital wayfinding system significantly improves navigation on the hospital grounds and enables clear, up-to-date information to be provided at all times.
Visitors benefit from intuitive wayfinding and clearly visible information, while the hospital can flexibly adapt content and centrally manage last-minute changes. At the same time, the digital elements modernize and enhance the hospital’s exterior appearance.

classification

The project demonstrates how digital signage creates tangible value even outside the traditional retail environment. Particularly in sensitive sectors such as healthcare, clear, digital visitor guidance helps simplify processes and reduce stress.
The combination of robust outdoor technology, centralized control, and seamless design integration exemplifies Wedeko’s approach.
