Dresden University Hospital has digitized its food service communications for visitors and staff. In collaboration with Wedeko, a brand of Bütema AG, the hospital implemented a digital signage-based food service guidance system that centrally manages information about meals and special offers and makes it available across all locations.
In the day-to-day operations of a hospital, large amounts of information must be communicated efficiently and reliably every day—especially in the food service environment. Menus, changes, and additional information should be readily available and easy to understand.
Analog solutions required significant effort to update and offered only limited flexibility. At the same time, the information delivery system needed to be designed to integrate seamlessly into existing workflows and reach patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Wedeko developed a digital food service management system specifically tailored to the needs of hospital operations. The goal was to centrally manage information while simultaneously making it available directly at the relevant serving stations.
The solution combines traditional information displays with digital menu boards, thereby creating a consistent information structure throughout the restaurant area.

Outside, a custom-builtCARUSO kiosk featuring two 49-inch displays was installed to provide visitors with information even before they enter the building.
A 60-inch information display has been installed at the entrance to the CARUSO employee restaurant to show important announcements and up-to-date content.
A digital wayfinding system was installed directly at the food stations, consisting of 43-inch displays mounted on custom-made metal stands. These clearly display the current menu items and specials.
In addition, two 43-inch digital signage displays and three digital menu boards were installed in the bistro areas, extending the system to other dining areas.
All content is managed centrally via the content management software and can be quickly and easily customized.

The digital food ordering system provides a clear, up-to-date display of menu items and information at all times. Patients, visitors, and staff benefit from improved wayfinding and transparent communication in the dining area.
Thanks to centralized control, content can be updated quickly, making processes more efficient and significantly reducing manual effort. At the same time, there is no longer a need for printed materials.
The project demonstrates how digital signage can be strategically deployed in the healthcare sector to digitize and optimize specific areas of application, such as food service.
The combination of centrally controlled content delivery, customized hardware, and seamless integration into existing workflows exemplifies Wedeko’s approach.
